Throughout the majority of Gloria the lighting remained fairly realistic, trying to replicate the fluorescent atmosphere of a corporate office.
Cooler tones were used upon Gloria’s entrances to give the effect of her bringing a “chill” into the room. The lights would return to a neutral tone following her exit.
A warmer white light was used in the Starbucks scene to give the illusion of cafe warmth while still feeling more corporate than a local coffee shop.
A square overhead light was constructed to cast light and add ambience to certain scenes.
Stylized lighting was used in four areas of the play to create a feeling of cinematic distance from the audience and express moments of a character’s internal attention.
Stylized lighting was also used at times of heightened tension to allow the audience a visual separation between themselves and the events of the play.

A tricolor light look was used to emphasize when a character was tuning out the world by listening to music. This occurred three times throughout the show, once in each scene.
This look was later replicated when Nan reflected on the events of the end of act 1, mentally leaving the Starbucks and entering a memory.
