For this production, we tried to use lighting to emphasize the difference between the colorful world of disco and the elegant world of Catholicism.
Regal “Catholic” Lighting
Colorful Disco Lighting
Lighting was also used to heighten moments of tension, like when Curtis and his gang break into the convent.
This show included a stained glass window that was used to emphasize location, as well as play into the disco moments with fun color changes and effects.
Lights were added to the windows of the set. The windows were lit in sections that allowed for different pane groupings to produce different colors.
The lighting was toned down for moments of reflection, namely the songs “I Haven’t Got a Prayer”, “The Life I Never Lead”, and “Sister Act”.
